The Things I Do for Love

..... of a book!

We have a good National Library system here where you can borrow from any branch and return it to whichever branch that is convenient for you.  Since I rediscovered the National Library at the beginning of this year, I've been rather spoilt considering the branch closest to me is just across the street from my flat. I've now borrowed books from several other branches and returned it at my branch, LOL. Convenient eh?  Especially for a bookworm like me!

Anyway I digress. Even though Singapore is so small, we get rather lazy here and often consider places that would require more than 30 minutes travel to be far - okay I confess to be the same - so I've only ventured to branches that are near to my place if I'm really keen on a book that's available there.

But late last week, I'd actually gone about 25 minutes in the opposite direction to my way home to go to a branch that I would never have stepped into just to get this book.  The catalog system showed that it was either that or another branch about an hour away since all other 10 over copies were out. Darn it!  Oh well, what's a little adventure eh?  Anyway, of course when I got there, my eyes bulged when I saw several other titles that I'd not read yet.  But I persevered and only got the one I wanted and another in the same series that I'd not read yet. :)

Now which book has intrigued me so, one may ask?  It's Turbulent Seas by Christine Feehan, Book 6 in the Drake Sisters series by Christine Feehan.  The series tells of seven sisters with a legacy of magical secrets.  Their stories are filled with intrigue, romance, familial ties and magic.

I'd read two other books but had always been keen to read the story of Joley Drake and Ilya Prakenski. They had met in Book 3 and had ties (magical) and run-ins (physical) for a year before their story started.  Their chemistry truly sizzles but what is most endearing is Ilya who was trained  to be an assasin from a very young age, found love and built ties with the Drake sisters. Another bonus, which makes Ilya special; even though he never knew his family, he knew that he is possibly the seventh son of a seventh son. Elle, who is the seventh daughter of the seventh daughter in the Drake family, gets all the gifts that each of her sisters have and is destined to pass it on to her daughters (yes she will have seven daughters). So Ilya is the male version of the Drake family and Joley will be in for an interesting life with him.

Oh yes, Joley is also a successful rock singer who is also a spell-singer, that means she can influence a person by her voice alone. She and her all-male band members constantly have to be careful of the paparazzi and tabloids and having been reading so much about the actors in the Twilight saga, I can really appreciate her story, as well as, understand the frustration that the actors have to go through.  And that was how Ilya came to be in close proximity with her, he elected himself (with the help of Joley's manager and brother-in-law) to be her personal bodyguard. Wonderful story!

I have Libby's story to read next - or when I can get away from my other books and before the due date - Book 4, Dangerous Tides.  She's the quiet healer of the family though knowing Christine, she will not be a bore at all. :)
