I've always loved music. It's my other passion next to books. Ask anyone and they'll tell you that I'm always having my earphones plugged to my ears - or my latest indulgence headphones! I just love getting lost in the rhythm of the music and the voice of the singers and then there's the lyrics! Some songs can just transport me to another world and I find my heart soaring or dipping depending on the genre. Golly, they can really rock the house down!
I have been introduced to many new artists since entering the Twilight world and especially through frequent visits to Stephenie Meyer's website. I have said time and again how totally thrilled I am that music is so intertwined with this series. How could I not when two of my favourite things go hand in hand. This phenomenon is such a novelty to me since no other books that I have read do it.
Stephenie's taste is so eclectic that it's such a joy to be introduced or reintroduced to these music. However, it could be noted that she loves rock more than others. Being a rock fan myself, I thought it wonderful since it's been ages since I'd heard any decent rock suggestions. The first of her recommendations I took, Muse, got me hooked. I remember my youngest brother laughing at me for finding out about them so late. I didn't care, I thought they were amazing!
However, none have left such an impact as Blue October. The first song I remember making an impression was Say It. It is such a catchy number about not letting someone whose shadow you've been living under, get the best of you. Then other songs slowly made an impression as well and I dare say that I love all that I've been listening to - I especially cannot get enough of Calling You.
There is just something about the music they play but I think more importantly, I think it is the voice of lead singer, Justin Furstenfeld, that makes it all the more hypnotic and addictive. I find I don't get tired listening to his voice over and over; and coming from someone who prefers to shuffle her music so that the same singer is not repeated one after another, that must surely say a lot.
So if you've not listened to any of their songs yet, I'd suggest giving it a try. Here are some of my favourites which have not gone stale to my ears despite having listened to them quite regularly for a few months. Boy, it was sure hard narrowing the list down lest I start sharing all of them! I do not own any of these clips though. :) Blue October, you guys rock!
