I started yet another new book this morning, the third since Sunday. I know, that sounds nuts since it means I've been reading a 400-page book every two days! Scary isn't it? I must admit there is a definite thrill with starting a new book. The moment I turn that first page, I feel like I'm starting a new adventure, which I suppose is true considering where a reading journey might take you. It's pretty much how one would feel when watching a new movie too, I reckon.
Funnily enough, I'm not sure if that is a usual occurrence or because of the subject matter since I've never really noticed how fast I read until recently when it keeps coming up in convos with my girlfriends, Maria and Nita.
I must add that it's not part of the Dark-Hunter series either. I thought I'd give it a break and read one of my other six books from Sunny and I wanted to see if I can read as quickly with a non Dark-Hunter book. Ha ha, so I confess to experimenting as well, not that I have much to worry about with this book. It is written by Christina Dodd after all and I'd already got through 80 pages by the end of lunch.
Danger in a Red Dress concludes two of her contemporary series; the Fortune Hunters with the wonderful Manly brothers and the Lost Texas series with the heartbreaking yet heartwarming Prescott family. It tells the story of Gabriel Prescott the adoptive brother of the Prescott sisters and Hannah Grey, who crossed paths with the Manly family. She was down on her luck and desperate for work when she found herself in a mansion on the wild Maine coast, caring for a lonely elderly woman, who then entrusted her with a dangerous secret on her deathbed. Hannah soon found herself on the run and pursued by killers, and desperately needed the one man who could keep her alive. No prize for guessing who that would be! Thus far, I've been thoroughly captivated and charmed!
I've been reading Christina Dodd's books for years though I'd read mostly her historical romances. I suppose I can safely say that she is probably my 2nd favourite author since I started reading adult romances and taken note to remember whose book I was reading - the first being Jayne Ann Krentz, of course. You could probably imagine my delight when I picked up her first contemporary romance a few years ago. I can't remember which it was but it was as wonderful as her historical romances. In fact, all her contemporary books were delightful! I've read them all.
Christina's heroines are such strong gals who are not shy to go for what they want even as they are not obnoxious about it. I know, I know, that's inherent in all romances but her gals are so much fun! They are witty, assertive and full of spunk! Her guys also complement the gals wonderfully. Their encounters are often full of sparks! There is a lot to be said for wonderful chemistry and indeed those are the kinds I love to read about. There is also a liberal amount of humour and intensity. One can't help but be captivated.

Christina has now ventured into the paranormal genre. I loved her Darkness Chosen series that involved the four children of the Wilder (formerly Varinski) family. I wished there was more of that story to tell. She has a new series out now too, the Chosen Ones, and oh joy, it's a 7-book series! I look forward to journeying there as well!
