Books Glorious Books...

This past Friday I got new books from  my favourite second-hand bookstore, Sunny Bookshop. It's been around for ages and I've been going there since I was 15. I did try other places in between but seems none has the best collection, return period or service.  I usually get about 14 books which would last me for two and half months. Sometimes I finish before the loan duration that I'd head to the National Library in between. One may ask why I don't just stick to the library. Well... it just seems that the good titles are usually taken and it takes ages before I can get my hands on them and I haven't the patience for the wait. :)

So this is how the system works - I pay the price on top; $15.00 and $27.00 for these two books and I get back $9.00 and $16.00 when I return it within the loan period. If one borrows more than four books, they would give two months loan period though they have a grace period of two weeks after the date. Of course I borrow more than that number. And even though it says 25 November as the due date, I don't have to return it till 8 December. Cool hey?

In any case, as previously mentioned, I went a little nuts when I saw some of my favourite authors so I took 15 books this time. Yikes! Hope I'll have time to finish them all! :D  Some of my finds today...

Did I mention that I read primarily romance novels? :D

Funnily enough, the highlight of my visit today, however, was not so much the books but what transpired during my visit. I was at the shelves near the counter and happened to have one ear free from my earphones - anyone who knows me would attest to the fact that I have my ears plugged to my MP3 constantly when I am out in public! Suddenly I hear the word "Twilight" so naturally my consciousness perked up!

Two of the staff ladies were talking to a customer and one of the staff was telling the latter that her colleague, Maureen, loves the books and she should have listened to how she went on about it earlier. She wasn't quite a fan, having read the first book and not inspired to continue the rest, while the customer  mentioned that she's got the books but not got around to reading it yet.  So it was two against one.  Maureen just smiled as she went about her work.  Now, how could I have left poor Maureen to fend for herself!

So I stepped into the fray and told the customer that she has to read them all, they are awesome, and that I've read it four times myself while I know friends who have read it 17 times. Her eyes just bulged at that. Then Maureen finally said something like, "Yeh, I like it. I think the story's good." which earned a high five from me.  We went into a brief discussion on which books she liked - Twilight and Breaking Dawn, another high-five! - and how she's looking forward to New Moon too. I told her that I was considering going over to JB to watch it - that's Johor Bahru, Malaysia for those unaware. She mentioned about censorship and that stopped me in my tracks albeit for a brief nanosecond! Then I said, "Oh, I don't care, I just want to watch it on the big screen and I'll watch it here again later." - yeh that works well in my mind, I reckon!

This convo took place while I was not yet finished with my browsing and I already knew that time was running short so guess who got back a wee bit late from her lunch break? LOL It was worth it though. I seldom get such enthusiastic discussions in real life and hearing it from my Twilighter friends elsewhere always made me wistful but now I can say I had one too! LOL

that is one yummy stack of books you got there!!
I always feel like a rich woman when I have a new stack of unread books waiting there for me, but I guess I won't have to explain that feeling to you ;-)

ah... interaction with another twilight fan, super!
I'm glad I have cyberfriends to gush over twilight because I , like you, hardly encounter anything twilight over here.

Oh yes, there is nothing more exciting than having a stack of books to get through. I am like a child let loose in a candy store! Total bliss! :D

One of my colleagues and I talk Twilight sometimes but there is only so much I can bore her with. :D

Aw, we 3 are such Twilight orphans, aren't we? :(

P.S. Living just a wee bit vicariously through our books, are we? Quite steamy methinks. :D

LOL @ Twilight orphans!

You mean no one else live vicariously trough their books? :O I thought that's how it's always done! ;) And hey, steamy is relative! ;D

Dang, wish emoticons work with comments! Maybe I should email Mr Blogger about it. ;)
