The Talented David Slade

David Slade who is directing the third movie in the Twilight saga, Eclipse, seems to be an equally talented photographer as he is a director.  Just check out some of the pics he's snapped and posted on his twitter page. My sis who is an avid photographer herself would be so impressed at how he played with the lights and focus. I pretty much suck behind the camera and I'm already impressed. :)

I know there have been a lot of skepticism regarding his ability to transfer Eclipse onto the big screen - of course David's initial offhand remarks when he was first hired didn't quite help but that's another story.  Everyone remembers him from 40 Days of Night and worried that he would concentrate too much on the gore of the newborns and forget the other emotional aspects of the book.  I've yet to watch that film coz I'm such a wuss and I always procrastinate with horror movies but I have watched Hard Candy, his other movie.  I must say I was vastly impressed. It was not the usual genre I would watch but I thought I'd give it a chance to be fair.  It's a disturbing theme but one of those films where you find that you can't quite shut if off.

Then on his twitter page, Peter Facinelli recommended David's video that he did for UNICEF as part of a project to raise awareness about human trafficking and sexual exploitation.  This video provides insight into the realities of trafficking, with a particular focus on the trafficking of children and adolescents into forced prostitution.  I dare say I was greatly mollified after watching this. It sure does not seem like he would have any issue in capturing the emotional essence of any given scene.

Then of course, David is a veteran in the music video industry and he's done a few of Muse's music videos, one of which is Bliss. I love this video. It's got a very surreal quality to it. I've always thought that Eclipse has that same quality and I reckon it is fitting that David is directing that particular movie out of the saga.  Ironically enough, David also directed Muse's video Newborn. Now isn't that karma that he's now directing a movie where newborns are a big part of it. :)  Check these out. I thought both of them are very well done indeed.

Now as for how he'd do in Eclipse, guess we'll just have to wait and see. :)

I think David redeemed himself a great deal by starting the twitter account since everyone could see he was just a normal guy dedicated to his job - even if he was initially horrible in answering those questions. :)

I have good vibes about Eclipse and I reckon it's going to be as great as the rest - especially considering that the actors have nothing but good things to say about working with him. :)
