Interesting new mythos on vampires and dimensions. A little wordy in some parts but overall an enjoyable read. Can't wait to get to Sixth Earth!

I have mixed feelings about this book. It's got interesting mythos and one can never go wrong with setting a paranormal/supernatural story in New Orleans. I adore Jane and Beast too, even though their inner battles can be a bit tiring at times, but that's usual with creatures as conflicted as them. I do think that the people surrounding Jane could be better developed. The only saving grace in her life seems to be her best friend, Molly. Perhaps, it'll get better as the story progresses and we actually get to meet Molly and her family.

Gosh, what an outstanding read! It unfolded like a film in my head and I couldn't put it down - finished it in two days! It's fast-paced and keeps you at the edge of your seat. There's enough thrills, emotional turmoil and romance to keep a reader engaged. Reece is such a sweetheart, and too good to be true, and every gal would like a grounded yet fun guy like him. Kara, is also wonderful despite the ghosts of her past. Connor is a true delight and a mother's dream, I'm sure. I liked the premise of the book, great investigative reporting! Truly adore a good story that still results in the happily-ever-after! Can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Trial By Fire

Trial by Fire by Jo Davis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It's been a long while since I've read a totally human storyline, having been immersed in paranormal stories. This is a great story even as dwelling in Frank Whitlaw's mind was a little troubling. I'd forgotten how pathetic sadistic killers who think they have been slighted to justify their crimes, can be. Loved the camaraderie of the fire fighters and the romance between Kat and Howard is nice to read about even as I wanted to knock Howard in the head a few times. This is one story where the female lead has lesser hangups than the male lead, which is a nice change. Look forward to reading about the rest of Howard's team.

I was initially very bothered by the indiscriminate hate on all lycans and that all lycans are inherently evil since I am more familiar with stories of good guys existing in all forms of shapeshifters. But it seems like that would change in future books, for which I am glad. Although I almost stopped reading due to my own perceptions on how shapeshifters should NOT behave, lol, I adored Claire and wanting to know how she fared made me forge on with the story. I loved that the lycan virus helped her find herself and finding love in Gideon is, of course, a huge bonus.

Stealing Kathryn

I loved the idea that good energy could shed away evil that one has been exposed to for decades. Love how the story progressed though I wish there would have been more interaction with people of Beneath. Really hope she would continue this series. Kathryn and Adrian are just a joy to read about. Always nice to see such tortured souls prevail in the end.

A little slow in some parts but reckon it was mostly due to getting used to the new world but still engaging enough. I would have loved for Asia to remember what she did to Khloe though. :)
