When A Witch Meets A Vampire... A Discovery of Witches

A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1)A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh my word! What an amazing read! It took me a while to actually start the book, required a few starts but once one get into the story, it is very hard to put down. Ms Harkness has created such an interesting world and the historical references were such a thrill. Her attention to detail, as well as the time taken to include those details are truly appreciated by this reader. Had a bit of a chuckle to read that so many vampires and witches are in academics, definitely not the typical professions of supernatural creatures in other books, refreshing nonetheless.
Matthew and Diana's journey is too sweet for words. One of the reasons I was reluctant to read this book was the reluctance to read a love story between a vampire and a witch. Of course, Diana is not the typical witch and Matthew is absolutely not the typical vampire, even within this story. His persona is so rich in history and experiences, and is surely difficult to be rivaled by any other. Can't wait to read the continuation of their journey!

Kindling the Moon

Kindling the Moon (Arcadia Bell, #1)Kindling the Moon by Jenn Bennett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A good start to another new mythos. Even though the buildup was a little weary in the beginning, one gets used to it eventually and the reading experience gets smoother, so much so putting the story down was quite a feat.

Arcadia, Lon and Lupe make such a wonderful trio and I enjoy reading their interactions. The ending was surely not something I was expecting but it was wonderful to see her grow into her powers.

Can't wait to read more of her adventures and hopefully the growth of her powers.

Hunted

Hunted (Dark Protectors, #3)Hunted by Rebecca Zanetti
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Yet another interesting new world of supernatural beings to delve into. I've been enjoying reading about the adventures of the Kayrs brothers and their allies even though it does take a while to get oneself immersed in this world. The books do keep getting better and better. I thought Dage and Emma's book was pretty amazing but I dare say the adventures and strengths of Moira and Connlan have been the best to read thus far. Really enjoy reading the interactions between the brothers. Each have their own stubborn streaks and quirks but their undying devotion to each other is obvious to see. Can't wait for Kane and Jase to get their mates.

Moira is such a sweetheart and it was heartwarming to see her try to fit into already set dynamics and bond that Cara, Emma and Katie established with each other. She is well-matched with Connlann and vice versa. Connlan's method of wooing back his mate is also to be applauded. Love that he's got all those extra gifts to complement an already outstanding soldier. Can't wait to see him make even better use of them in the upcoming war with the Kurjans.

Chasing Magic

Chasing Magic (Downside Ghosts, #5)Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Yet another engaging development in the life of Chess Putnam. Her adventures keep getting better and her capabilities keep growing in leaps and bounds. I wish she would get some sort of acknowledgement for her achievements or at least redeems herself in the eye of Elder Griffin. The Church sounds too pompous anyway and Chess is better than that.

It is interesting that the more she is required to extend herself in order to save the day, the more she doubts and berate herself. Although that is sometimes an irritating trait of hers, it is also very human and makes us feel her anguish even more. Thank goodness, Terrible is there to anchor her. And oh my, the depth of Terrible's feelings for Chess is just so heart-wrenchingly romantic. It is truly heartwarming to that someone like Terrible, who has faced so much in his own life and stuck in his line of work, capable of such love and emotions, even if he doesn't always show it.

Sacrificial Magic

Sacrificial Magic (Downside Ghosts, #4)Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another outstanding instalment in the adventures Chess Putnam. She is as addictive to read about as she is addicted to those drugs of hers - I wish that one day, Stacia Kane will write that she's weaned off those drugs, one can wish!

It's amazing how much trouble can happen to Chess from cases which should not pose much of a problem - of course, we won't have a story otherwise. I loved every bit of this story though I hoped that she could have kept some of that amazing power for herself without losing her own identity. She just has such amazing potential that is just waiting to be tapped on.

The sacrifice at the end is also a sad loss even as I am not a fan of the individual.

Can't wait to read next adventure.

Dreams of a Dark Warrior - Dreams Do Come True...

Dreams of a Dark Warrior (Immortals After Dark, #11)Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a wonderful read! After such a build-up to the Regin-Aidan encounter from previous books, it is truly delightful to finally read about it. It is also nice to see Regin's perspective of her feelings for Aidan and his reincarnations since her sisters seem to think she was dreading his latest reincarnation. Aside from the Dark Hunters series, the Immortal After Dark series is the only other series where a villain can become a hero in a future book so it's always great to see villains redeeming themselves and getting their happily-ever-after, especially written in such a beautiful manner by these two authors.

Magic Tests - Watch Out for Julie Olsen-Daniels-Lennart, World!

An Apple for the Creature (Kate Daniels, #5.3)An Apple for the Creature by Charlaine Harris
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Read only Magic Tests by Ilona Andrews.

Such a lovely read. It was nice to read something about Julie Olsen-Daniels-Lennart. The ward of Kate Daniels and Curran Lennart is definitely basking in the love and protection from her 'parents' and the Pack. She's proved her capabilities by solving this mystery. It wouldn't surprise me if Ilona Andrews starts another series based on Julie's adventures. :D
